FAQ
What is Core Aeration?
Core Aeration is a process that uses a machine with hard metal tines that removes cores of soil from the top 2"-4" of top soil and allows nutrients to enter directly to the root zone of existing turf. It also creates these holes to loosen up the top layer of your lawn and reduce the compaction of your soil which allows the roots to grow back thicker and stronger. This allows for a thicker lawn with more grass and less weeds.
What type of seed do you use?
We use Lesco Turf Type Tall Fescue seed, it's a higher quality than the big box stores and has a high germination rate with excellent heat and drought resistance. It's a durable grass that handles well when being walked on and grows in thick to choke out any bare spots preventing weeds from growing.
How is Overseeding different than seeding?
Overseeding is the process of spreading seed across an existing turf lawn and allowing the existing grass to trap moisture and shield the grass seed from too much sunlight. It will thicken up a lawn with more grass and where there is more grass there is less space for weed development.
What time of year should I get service?
Ideally in Northern Virginia, Core Aeration and Overseeding are performed twice a year in the early spring and early fall. This is the best time for temperatures and moisture to be ideal for seed germination from aeration and core production from aeration.
What should I do before you service my lawn?
For best results, we recommend you mow your lawn within a few days of service and have watered it thoroughly. It should not be soaked but should be moist like a morning dew to aid in core extraction from the aeration machines.
What should I do after you service my lawn?
Watering a lawn after seeding and aeration twice a day is the best course of action for at least 14 days. Water will help the seed germinate and allow the roots to grow back into the holes created by the aerator. The yard should not be saturated but should be about as wet as a morning dew in the cooler hours of the day at a minimum.
Can I get a discount for having a large house/landscaping?
Our pricing model accounts for houses and driveways with landscaping on the lot size as defined in county/city records. If you feel your property has a significant exception to this feel free to reach out to us and we can discuss other pricing options.
What pricing option should I use for my lot?
We utilize public records to calculate overall lot size with some overage to account for house footprint, driveways and landscaping etc. If there is a change to the lot size that you sign up for we will contact you PRIOR to scheduling you for service to confirm any price changes. If your lot is 0.27 acres or smaller you qualify for our Up to 1/4 Acre pricing option.
